In The Teen Prism's second episode, Inayat and Ishmeen talk about body image, eating disorders, and how influencers change our mindsets about our body shape. You focus to become slimmer or gaining weight according to whatever shape you have, not for your self satisfaction but to convince others. Wrong, wrong, wrong!!
Losing or gaining weight is only for your happiness, not for other's satisfaction. Don't change your body for your Instagram posts. Instagram may look like the perfect world, but it isn't!
People make cool poses and click eye-catching pictures and post it on the platform. Only to realise that they are cheating themselves with photoshopping those photos and applying filters.
Many instagrammers and influencers may post their pictures of eating junk. Like, pizzas or burgers or ice creams. But in reality, you never know if they put a morsel in their mouths, spit it out, and leave that food. For the audience, it seems as if those celebrities stay slim and in shape even while eating junk. Maybe, they are just lying! That is the dark truth of Instagram.
Episode description This Wednesday, Ishmeen and Inayat took an initiative to come forward with a topic which most teens go through but don't come forward and talk about. An engaging discussion about anorexia, Instagram (a photoshopped world), exercise and much more.
Eating right and exercising according to your body type.
We also discussed that if you have a target or goal that you want to achieve, then you have to work hard towards it. If you have a set a weight goal to either lose, gain or maintain, then do whatever you can that is in your power to achieve that.
If you want to lose weight - eat, eat, eat! But eat right. Don't expect to yearn results without not working hard towards it. But please, never stop eating. Don't become so self-conscious that you barely eat a morsel of food all day. Eat right! But also, exercise! Your diet plays a crucial role in achieving your weight goal. And so does the amount of exercise you do.
To gain weight, eat as much as possible. But don't become a couch potato. Workout as much as possible. But eat more than you burn.
To maintain weight, eat as much as you want (but the right kind of food). But burn as many calories as you eat.
Say NO to such packaged foods.
Balanced diet
Eat the right kind of food in right proportions. If you're trying to get lean, include more protein in your diet. If you're trying to lose weight, try having more salads, fruits and vegetables. Drink loads of water too.
Working out
As Ishmeen said, working out makes her happier. She feels more active throughout the day. The day she doesn't exercise, she feels like a couch potato. And that's true! That happens to each one of us. It's okay if you don't have top gym equipment. That doesn't matter! If you can't afford it, that's fine! It isn't a compulsion to lift weights during the workout.
Instead, you can go for a jog or go biking! Ishmeen, Saanvi and Inayat are biking buddies. You can have one too. Either a neighbour or a friend. Anyone who has a bike and is interested to go with you.
And trust me, biking is really fun! Getting connected to those pedals is all the joy. Thus, your workout isn't supposed to be top-notch. Something easy works every time too.
The Moral of the Episode
Two groups of four words - Be natural, be yourself! Because you are the best version of yourself and no one can play a better YOU than YOU.
